The BMW Z2 Roadster makes some noise once again since it was rumored back in 2009. Rumor has it that the BMW Z2 Roadster will launch in 2012, followed by a Coupe variant. BMW Z2 will be based on next generation 1 Series platform, built under the umbrella of Project i and the BMW EfficientDynamics program.

The BMW Z2 will feature a high strength steel body, aluminum front bonnet, and front wings and bootlid made of composite materials. Magnesium is used to manufacture propshaft and engine block. The vehicle will not weigh more than 2,200 lbs (1000 kg). The Z2 will also have a movable front spoiler to provide extra down force, opening and closing intakes and grille slats provide cooling for the engine or battery. It will also get a soft top, rear-drive, and will be available in different powertrains.

Rumor has it that the car is currently being designed by BMW Designworks studio in California. Here is the latest rendering from Carmagazine UK:
