It was rumored a year ago that the 2012 BMW M5 will have a turbocharged engine. Now BMW’s M boss Dr. Kay Segler confirms these rumors as true. No numbers have been confirmed yet with the power output, but this will most likely be within the 585-600 horsepower range as expected from the V8 turbocharged engine.
The addition of a V8 engine to the 2012 BMW M5 will mean many things. It will automatically make this car fit for both normal street driving, and as a race car — the transformation can happen in one button press. Dr. Segler reveals that this is in line with their philosophy of making “two cars in one,” which will surely be a hit in the market. So for those who need to drive kids to school then blast off to get to work, this will be the perfect car for you.
As an answer to the M-diesel powered question, Dr. Segler confirms that they are planning to offer diesels in areas where there is high demand, however, it just might not be feasible because of the lack of high-revs.
The 2012 BMW M5 will most likely be launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011.
