BMW wins four recognitions at the 2010 Engine of the Year Awards

The results for the 2010 Engine of the Year Awards have just been published. BMW took four class awards, and got the most recognition compared to other automakers. Though BMW lost the International Engine of the Year Award to the Volkswagen 1.4 liter TSI, BMW still won in four other categories.

BMW-PSA 1.6-liter Turbo power unit won the the 1.4 to 1.8 liter engine class capacity award for usefulness and power combination. Perfect for everyday use, and even better for track days.

BMW got its second award for the 1.8 to 2.0 liter engine capacity class with the BMW 2.0 liter twin-turbo diesel. According to critics, this might be the best V6 engine around, and it shows the potential of diesel engines as well.

The third BMW award was for the 3.0 liter twin-turbo which again takes first place in the 2.5 to 3.0 liter class for its efficiency and super refinement.

The last BMW award was for the 4.0 liter V8 powering the M3 in the 3.0 to 4.0 liter competition branded as one of the most involving engines of all time.

Best Performance Engine: Mercedes AMG 6.2 liter
Under 1 liter: Toyota 1.0 liter
1.0 to 1.4 liters engine capacity: 1.4 liter TSI VW
1.4 to 1.8 liter BMW-PSA 1.6-liter turbo
1.8 to 2.0 liter: BMW 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel
2.0 to 2.5 liters engine capacity: 2.5 liter Audi R5 Turbo
2.5 to 3.0 liter: BMW 3.0-liter twin turbo
3.0 to 4.0 liter: BMW 4.0 liter V8
Above 4.0 liters of displacement: Mercedes AMG 6.2 liter
International Engine of the Year: Volkswagen 1.4 liter TSI
