Singapore. BMW has been selected as the official limousine for the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2012 for the second consecutive year. To mark the occasion, BMW and Performance Motors Limited (PML) will deploy 40 units of BMW ActiveHybrid 5 to provide chauffeured rides for all VIPs, speakers, guests and foreign dignitaries attending the event.

SIEW 2012 is an annual week-long platform for energy professionals, policy-makers and commentators meant for discussions and the sharing of best practices and solutions within the global energy space.

Adhering to growing environmental concerns and BMW’s Efficient Dynamics strategy, BMW Group works towards actualizing an emissions-free, electric-powered vehicle so as to meet the growing demands for sustainable individual mobility in congested megacities around the world in the form of its new sub-brand – BMW i.

“Before the world’s current infrastructure is able to fully support the electric-powered cars, there has to be a link between the present and the future. We see ActiveHybrid cars as the perfect solution. With both a combustion engine and electric motor working hand-in-hand, an ActiveHybrid car offers the best of both worlds,” said Mr Neil Fiorentinos, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia.

“BMW’s commitment towards building cars with greater fuel economy and lower carbon emission is synonymous with what the global delegates of the SIEW 2012 hope to achieve. This is the main reason why BMW has been chosen as the official car for SIEW 2012,” added Mr Fiorentinos.

“BMW and Performance Motors has had vast experience in managing various high-level government and international events. We are honoured to be chosen for the secondconsecutive year as the official limousine for SIEW 2012. The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 limousines will accord the visiting speakers and VIPs with a comfortable and luxurious ride while championing our belief in delivering a fuel efficient and environmentally friendly ride without compromising on power,” said Mr Say Kwee Neng, Managing Director of Performance Motors Limited.

BMW ActiveHybrid 5

The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 brings together a BMW TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line engine, an electric drive system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox for the first time. The latest generation of BMW ActiveHybrid technology also adds precisely controlled – and therefore extremely effective – intelligent energy management to the mix. All of which gives the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 an exceptional balance of performance and fuel economy for the premium executive car class.

The drive system generates combined output of 340hp, allows the car to be driven on electric power alone up to 60km/h, accelerates the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds, cuts average fuel consumption to 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres and has CO2 emissions of just 149g/km.
