The 2015 BMW i8 hybrid sportscar will be debuting next month at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show as the second model from the BMW i sub-division.
The 2015 BMW i8 will extensively use carbon fiber for weight reduction just like the BMW i3. It only weighs 1450 kilograms which makes its performance similar to the current M3. It just takes 4 seconds from 0 to 62 mph. Under the hood, it is powered by a 170 horsepower electric motor that drives the front-wheels, plus a 1.5 liter 3-cylidner turbocharged petrol engine delivering another 223 horsepower. It can change from a front-wheel drive vehicle to a rear-wheel drive, or even an all-wheel drive setup. The automaker promises that this vehicle will travel up to 20 miles in full electric mode.
BMW aims to build 10,000 units every year. The base price is said to be over 100,000 euros in the European region.
