BMW receives over 8,000 orders for the i3 – production increase needed

Bloomberg reports that BMW is considering a production increase for the i3 electric car due to overwhelming early demand for the model exceeded the German automaker’s expectations. Reports says that more than 8,000 reservations for the compact city car have been made.

BMW Chief Financial Officer Friedrich Eichiner says, “If demand holds, which is what it’s looking like, we will soon have to invest more,” he said at a press conference in Amsterdam. BMW expects to sell more than 10,000 of the i3 next year and “will adjust capacity according to demand.”

The i3 will go on sale in Germany in November and other markets will have the electric car next year.
