Rumor has it that BMW is currently rethinking the next generation of its sporty, rear-drive 1 Series hatchback, due in 2018. A report from AutoExpress UK says that the new 2018 BMW 1 Series will probably move away from the rear-wheel drive architecture and make use of the newly launched xDrive four-wheel drive.
The 2 Series Active Tourer will launch in a few weeks and the 1 Series may just follow shortly, also with the front-wheel-drive architecture of BMW. In 2015 by the second-generation X1, will be the second FWD vehicle. All three of these BMWs will be based on the new UKL1 architecture that already underpins the new three and five-door MINIs.
