BMW has reclaimed the top spot in the premium SUV segment with the release of the new BMW X1. Designed to attract young buyers, this smallest crossover in the BMW four-model fleet is secure, eco-friendly, comes in an optional all-wheel drive, and offers superb performance. On top of that, it is also 9,000 euros cheaper than other SUVs in the same BMW segment. It just costs US$35,800 — which makes the X1 the most wanted SUV today.
In July alone, BMW was able to sell 55,550 units of the X1. A total of 64,049 units have been sold since it’s release last October 2009.
Other auto manufacturers are making competitors to the best-selling X1. Audi’s Q3, Saab’s 9-4X, and two other models by Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti are expected to compete with the X1 once they are released. The Mini Countryman which will go on sale this September with a price tag of 20,200 euros is also a competitor. But being a sub-brand of BMW, it will bring profit to the group as well.
