BMW X1 will be assembled and sold in Russia

InsideLine reports that the BMW X1 units that will be sold in Russia will be assembled there as well. BMW will rely on Russian auto assembler Avtotor to assemble the vehicles beginning October 1, 2010. Having it’s own production line at the Kaliningrad plant (where X5 and X6 units are also assembled), the BMW X1 will be available at Russian dealers this October as well.

The X1 sDrive18i Urban version will be priced at $42,000, xDrive20d Urban at $50,000, and xDrive20d Lifestyle version at $55,000.

Avtotor plans to deliver around 400 X1 models by the end of the year. However, there will be a lot more BMW vehicles assembled there. The number is expected to reach up to 10,000 units.

There are reports that BMW ans Avtotor plans to make this relationship long term, producing 50,000 units a year in full-scale production. Welding and painting included.
