Video – The New F10 BMW M5 drifting at Nurburgring’s wet track

The new BMW M5 continues to entice us by making another interesting appearance. Previous street testing videos can be considered boring when compared to this video of the new BMW M5 drifting in the wet Nurburgring race track — where all the fun is!

Clearly, this vehicle is undergoing testing on the drifting capabilities of the new BMW M5. BMW engineers want to make sure how well it can perform in the track before it launches at the end of 2011.  It will also make its debut appearance at the Geneva Motor Show early next year.

Design wise, the front area gets a clear M treatment with an aggressive bumper and huge air intake. Flowing from front to end are the design lines that accentuate the aggressiveness of the vehicle. This M5 will have a carbon fiber roof and use aluminum parts to reduce the weight.

Dr. Kay Segler of BMW M has recently confirmed that the next generation 2012 BMW M5 will have a V8 turbocharged engine; same as the BMW X5 M and X6M. The horsepower is expected to reach as high as 600, peak torque of 530 lb-ft. 8-Speed units with stop-start technology will also be available. The DCT will be operated with steering wheel mounted shifting paddles. It will also carry a unique 7-Speed transmission. It will be the perfect car for street driving, and driving on the track as well. Dr. Segler promised that the new BMW M5 will give us the best of both worlds by just pushing a button.
