Photo Rendering – 2012 BMW 1 Series Hatchback

The BMW 1 Series line up is scheduled to be refreshed in 2012. The first model to get overhauled is the hatchback version, and will be unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Dubbed ‘F20’, the next generation 1 Series hatchback will have longer wheelbase and wider track than its predecessor. Using this new platform, a three and five door variant will be available in Europe, and the US will get the coupe and convertible versions.

The interior will have design cues from the 5 Series, and the structure will have a similarity to the future 6 Series. The next generation 1 Series models will have a 1.3-liter turbo powerplant developing 177 horsepower. The gasoline version dubbed N30 will have 1.2 to 1.5 liter engine capable of 70 to 184 horsepower.  The 135i will be using the N55 Twin-Scroll engine, while the diesel will have a fuel efficient three-cylinder 1.5 liter N37 engine capable of 110 to 125 horsepower.

Since prototypes have been seen around Munich already, Autobild gives us a rendering of the next generation 1 Series hatchback based on the 5 Series GT.
