BMW sees aluminum as the solution in reducing vehicle weight

A BMW source confirms that they will be using more aluminum in the future cars of the BMW fleet. It is definitely a lot lighter than steel but it is strong, sustainable, and recyclable — which fits the BMW philosophy of sustainability.

BMW has already begun using aluminum in making car doors, hoods, and other car components. The use of aluminum varies, and there is no strict percentage in which their cars will be using aluminum in its structure. The new 5 series for example, consists of 20% aluminum overall. Other cars might differ in percentage of aluminum used.
