BMW 9 Series Coupe Greenlighted?

Rumors of the BMW 9 Series Coupe surface again as CarMagazine UK reports that BMW CEO Harald Krüger, his R&D chief Klaus Fröhlich and design chief Adrian van Hooydonk met before Christmas, to review key future models at a ‘LUP’ meeting, shorthand for long-term corporate planning, where the 9 Series was approved.

A previous report by Automobile Mag also said that it will be positioned between the 7 Series and the Rolls-Royce Ghost, and will arrive before 2020.

Even though a typical BMW coupe would wear an even numbered badge, the iconic 8 Series is said to remain on the shelves and the 10 Series trademark is not owned by BMW – unconfirmed rumor – so hence the 9 Series choice.

Other sources say the 9 Series will in fact be a four-door luxury sedan with a coupe-like rear-design, a response to the beautiful Mercedes-Maybach. The Vision Future Luxury Concept will influence the design of the 9 Series, but likely won’t follow the exact steps. Technology and design are moving at a rapid pace, so the final packaging and styling will try to stay ahead of the curve.
