Car Advice reports that there is no BMW M2 Convertible in the pipeline. Chief engineer of the M2, Frank Isenberg, made it clear that a drop-top model wasn’t on the cards. “We’ve got such a nice M235i Convertible. And convertibles are not for racetracks, they’re for cruising,†Isenberg said. And if that wasn’t clear enough, the M2 engineer said the following: “There will not be an M2 Convertible,†he said. “We need to keep it as purist as we did with the 1 Series M Coupe.â€
“You can take that car on a racetrack as well, but you wouldn’t choose it for a track day,†Isenberg added. “That’s the reason why we said no [to an M2 Convertible].â€
Isenberg said he was also in charge of the the 1M development and pretty much confirmed our experience behind the wheel – the M2 is more predictable and not quite as crazy as its predecessor.
For now, if you’re looking for a fun, compact and sporty open-top model, the M235i Convertible might be one of the best choices on the market.
