Since its launching in 2009, BMW F10 5 Series already had an update in 2013. Still, the manufacturers wanted to update it once again with the new technology developed in the past three years and make it competitive to Mercedes-Benz E Class. 2017 brings the new and improved version of the famous model, the G30 5 series.
Even though the company doesn’t want to release all of the details yet, spy photos of the new model were revealed and some of the features can be guessed. It’s expected more details will be revealed bit by bit as the release date is getting closer, in a traditional BMW manner.
The upcoming 5 Series will mostly resemble the upgraded F10 model, but with some new additions inspired by the new G11/G12 7 Series. It’s highly probable that the headlights will be connected to the kidney grilles, and the taillights will look very similar to the new 7 series models.
Theophilus Chin, an automotive design manipulator, created the concept of the new 5 Series model as he believes it will look like. As it can be seen from the pictures, most designer features won’t be changed, except for the front and the back of the car.
Implementing CFRP into the chassis and using aluminium wherever possible will reduce some weight so the new model should be lighter than its previous versions.
The engine will remain pretty much the same, but the new B family of modular engines will be introduced on all of the new models. In the technology section, it’s not that hard to guess that the engineers will have a lot of work since the main competitor, the E-Class, set up very high expectations for the given segment. Expect many advancements and surprises.
