BMW i8 Spyder VS Audi R8 Spyder

After the production of BMW i8 Spyder was confirmed, we were left somewhat disappointed that it will not be unveiled until 2017. Honestly, one couldn’t say what’s the best about this model – it is exceptional in looks, technology, and performance. The designers did the exceptional job, creating a hybrid supercar of the new generation. This is how we imagined the future will look like – and it’s here already!

It seems like the German companies are carefully following each other’s work, as the i8 Spyder is not the only convertible supercar. Audi debuted its own R8 Spyder at 2016 New York International Auto Show!

To make things even more interesting, these two spectacular models aren’t even direct competitors. At the moment, the Audi R8 comes with a naturally aspirated V-10 engine, with starting price of $160,000. BMW i8 Spyder uses a plug-in hybrid with a turbocharged 1.5 liter, three-cylinder engine, and the pricing starts at $140,000. When Audi presents an entry-level, twin-turbocharged V-6 model in a Spyder version in the near future, the German vehicles will be more similar to each other.

While BMW created a completely futuristic experience with the new i8 Spyder model, Audi stuck to a more traditional look. The term ‘traditional’ is very stretched, though, and it only means that the R8 Spyder resembles cars as we know them more than the BMW i8 Spyder does.

Both look super powerful, which they honestly are. Any comparison between them is impossible because these two models are not only different from anything currently available, they are very different from each other as well. Anyone who has to choose between getting an R8 or an i8 will have a lot of thinking to do.
