To prevent any possible faulty deployments, BMW is taking this recall as a precautionary measure. The affected vehicles are produced prior to December 11, 2015. An estimate of 26,000 cars is affected by this recall. The air bags in these cars may have a defect in the control module, but right now, no reports of the incident have been recorded yet. These air bags were supplied by Continental AG. A total of 47,000 vehicles have been produced for this variant and the remaining vehicles should not be affected by this issue.

In the U.S., the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that 6,110 vehicles in the country is affected by the recall. These vehicles are from the model year 2016; the 740Li, 750Li, and 750 Lxi variants included. There are 2,600 affected units in Germany and 4,700 cars in China that also need to be recalled.

For the U.S., owners of the affected vehicles will be receiving a letter of notification. The fix will be free of charge and will only take around 4 hours to complete in the BMW dealership.
