Video Review of the 830 WHP BMW 335i

The N54 engine was something that enthusiasts had to make their mind up about when it was first released to the market. The audience was generally unsure if this is a great engine or a sloppy one. It was, after all, replacing one of the best engines in history: the naturally aspirated 3-liter straight-six N52. However, it did not take long before the twin turbo N54 won the hearts of the crowd. This all started with the E90 BMW 335i and here is a video review:

The BMW 335i was fitted with not one but two turbochargers so it did very well in performance.
it has great torque, it was fast, and it was very sharp. The layout also made it very easy to tune. Soon enough, 400 HP were quickly roaming the streets through simple JB4 tunes.

In this review, Matt Farah tested the 335i. Even if it may look unsuspecting on the outside, it was a beast inside. The owner of this car decided to replace the twin-turbo setup with a single turbo version. He left the throttle response and low-rev torque alone. After all, he was only interested in the drag times. Each one to his own taste.

This model was fitted with a single 68 millimeter turbo under the hood and a meth injection system along with a new ECU map. That blew up the power to a whopping 830 WHP. That is over the top considering that it’s all coming out of a 3-liter engine. He uses this mostly on daily drives, BTW.

The verdict? Matt thought that his ride does need some improvements in the brakes to not be overwhelmed by the sheer power. Overall, the stock parts can mostly hold up and that is a testament to the build quality of N54 units.
