Multiple auto companies have been affected by the Takata airbags recall. Many of the Tacata airbags have gone wrong and caused injuries and even deaths. Because of that, some vehicle series are getting recalled and the latest news is that some BMW X5/X6 models feature the issued airbags and should be recalled.
The NHTSA statement goes: “In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front airbags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature cycling. An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.â€
There has been no evidence that the faulty airbags have hurt anyone in the BMW X5, but the company will still recall the front airbags in the certain models. The process will start on July 18th and it will be done at dealerships.
The number of X5/X6 units that will be recalled is not small at all – a total of 91,806 cars. That doesn’t mean that all of the airbags are defective; it’s just that BMW wants to eliminate even the slightest risk of anyone driving in their car being hurt. The chances are that none of the Takata airbags in the BMW’s is bad, but better safe than sorry.

I purchased my 2005 BMW 530i from Performance Motors in Singapore, and shipped same to Hong Kong in 2008. My car’s VIN is WBANE72050CM18370, Engine No. 05086098N52B30AF.
Wondering if my car is affected by the Takata airbag recall, or other BMW recalls for that matters. If my memory serves me right, I cannot recall any recall services my car has undergone before either in Singapore or Hong Kong.
