The production is estimated to start in 2019 in the San Luis Potosi plant, the area that is becoming known for the automotive factories. Constructions officially began yesterday with a big ceremony.

The Mexican plant will be building the BMW 3 Series, one of the best-selling line Germans ever made, with the estimated capacity of 150,000 units per year. The investment in Mexican plant is around $1 billion and 1,500 people will be hired.

With the rising number of automotive job openings, the Mexican auto industry has seen a 40 percent increase from 2008-2014. Right now, there are at least 18 auto factories in Mexico with several more to come soon. The main reason behind this are lower wages than Canada and the U.S. have.

The plant will be built in a way that supports sustainability, with most of the electricity coming from renewable sources. They will also lower the water consumption and recycle the water in the paint shop.
