BMW is celebrating its 100th birthday and there is no doubt that throughout their existence, they have made some of the best cars in the face of the earth. The company wanted to make “Ultimate Driving Machines†and that is what they’ve been doing for the past century. But which one is the best BMW among the fleet of spectacular cars? It is high time that someone tries to find out. Is is the unique BMW M1 or the classic BMW M3? Find out in this video by Autocar:
The BMW M1 is a mid-engine supercar designed by Giugiaro. At launch time, it didn’t fit the mold of what BMW made and so it didn’t do well in terms of sales. However, the car was beautiful, fast, and usable for everyday driving. It was truly the world’s first everyday supercar. Powered by a 3.5 liter inline-six engine mounted in the middle and mated to a five-speed manual transmission, it delivered 273 horsepower. It sounded great and still holds the title of BMW’s first ever M car. BMW also decided that this one will not have a successor, so it’s one of a kind.
The classic E30 BMW M3 is also a candidate. The original M3 was developed as a race car and it is one of the best driving BMW cars of all time. Many enthusiasts also say that it is best driving car of all time and for them, there is no other car can come close to the driving experience that it offers. The E30 M3’s is powered by a 2.3 liter four-cylinder engine delivering 190 horsepower and was capable of 0-60 mph in around 7 seconds. It is slow, yes, but it is incredible how it delivers its power. The steering is near perfect. The chassis is brilliant in balance. It has everything that it takes to deliver pure driving pleasure.
Both cars can take the crown. However, Autocar decides that even if the M1 is rare and spectacular, the E30 BMW M3 is easier to drive and more comfortable so it deserves to win the title.
