Video: 2017 BMW G30 5 Series Drifts in Nurburgring

BMW is known to do intensive testing before they ever release cars in the market. That being said, the BMW engineers are currently hard at work testing the upcoming BMW G30 5 Series. In this footage below, the car is seen doing some mad drifts around the Nurburgring to hard test the vehicle before it meets the public.

All we can do now is observe the signs. Not much have been revealed about the car but deducing from the V8 sound coming from the exhaust pipes, this indicates a future 550i model. The N63 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine used for the 7 Series will now be carried by the 5 Series top of the line. Talk about getting a premium engine. It is less likely that the engine specs will change because it also remained the same for the 7 Series. The engine is expected to deliver around 450 horsepower and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. If it’s true that the 2017 BMW G30 5 Series will lose a significant amount of weight (at least 100kg), this will be a very powerful car.

All of the improvements will be possible thanks to a new Cluster Architecture (CLAR) that will be used for the 5 Series. A lot of aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) will also be utilised in its structure. The approach will be very similar to the new 7 Series.

There will also be 2-liter 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines to 3-liter included in the range. A a plug-in hybrid model is also expected.

The G30 will get Remote Controlled Parking and all sorts of driving assistants including Gesture Control. It will also get the new iDrive5.0 system. All these would make the drifts even more fun!
