BMW M4 Competition Package vs. Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe

Autocar decides to do a face-off between the BMW M4 Competition Package and the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe. The BMW M4 Competition Package is fast, sharp, and king in terms of driving dynamics. It does cost around $5500 extra to get your hands on this particular variant. It considered as a weapon on the road, but so is the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe. The Merc is sexy, seductive, and seriously powerful. Which one is actually better?

BMW M4 Competition Package vs. Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe

The BMW M4 Competition Package delivers around 444 horsepower with 406 lb-ft of torque. It has an improved suspension, a revised differential tuning, steering adjustments, a titanium sports exhaust and beautiful 20″ wheels. It was engineered to perfection.

The Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe on the other hand is running on steroids. It goes beyond the ponies that BMW offers. At 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque courtesy of a 4.0 liter V8, this car will not go down without a fight. Mercedes also added handling enhancements, an electronically-controlled rear differential, sportier suspension and wider wheels.

The road test was done in scenic Welsh roads and the result was more in favor of the BMW on dry ground. Autocar was impressed with the comfort and response of the car in rough pavement, thanks to the car’s revised damper and springs. The Merc was a powerful car but it is less forgiving. It gets upset over bumps and choppy bits on the road. Another thing: it is very loud on the inside, to the point that its not comfortable for the driver.

Performance wise, the AMG was more reliable in wet grounds and other conditions. It is more grounded even if it is massive in power. However, the M4 Competition Package is offers a razor-sharp throttle response and an athletic chassis that turns out to be difficult to handle in wet grounds.

Overall, Autocar chose the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe just because it is more reliable, but the BMW came in very very close.
