One of the tricks up the sleeve of the new 7 Series, among a plethora of technology premieres, is BMW’s new Remote Control Parking feature. Now these fancy technologies may look good on paper, but most enthusiasts would care more about how it actually works in real life. Videos in the past showing the Remote Control Parking feature left doubts about the practicality of this function. Parking spaces were unreal and it doesn’t seem to fit a normal, daily driver. Finally, here’s a real life test that reviews if this function is useful in real life:
The test was set in a normal day with the driver going to work. The idea is they want to test out if there will be a time when the feature came in handy. Fortunately, they did!
The video shows them taking the 730d model to a crowded parking lot. Later on as they were having dinner, someone parked so near to the car that they didn’t have enough room to get in the car, they had to use the Remote Control Parking feature. When they arrived home, there were two cars blocking the driveway that the 7 series could barely pass through. This is also when the function came in handy.
So is this function safe? As exhibited in the video, it is. Can be used by daily drivers? Yes, BMW thought of that too.
A few negatives include only being able to work 10 meters at most in either direction and the key’s touchscreen can be a bit frustrating to use at first. However, BMW will surely work on improving those as they receive more feedback from customers.
