Most BMW enthusiasts will say that the E46 generation M3 is better than the E36 M3 in a heartbeat. The former just seems perfect in any angle while the latter is a bit technologically challenged. Car Throttle challenges this and gives 5 reason why an E36 BMW M3 is actually a better buy over an E46 M3.
Alex from Car Throttle was the person who made the choice. He was buying a car and he was like any other car enthusiasts faced with a difficult decision to make. He had to weigh a few factors before ultimately purchasing the E46 M3. He put together this video to help guide other buyers who will face the same decision in the future.
Among the reasons why he chose is the cars is the looks. He says that the looks of the BMW E36 M3 is better than the E46 M3. The boxy, ’90s styling image that is has is pretty cool. Looks can be subjective though!
He also feels that the E36 sounds fantastic. This is not an apples to apples comparison because the one Alex bought had aftermarket exhausts. However, he prefers this sound over the E46 M3’s.
He was also impressed with the history and performance of the European 321 hp 3.2 liter engine. It is fast, powerful, and fun to drive.
The body of the E36 M3 also came with three different body styles and it has the edge over the E46 M3 in this regard. The E36 M3 was available as a coupe, cabrio or sedan.
Finally, the E46 M3 is rare. There were only 1,700 vehicles sold by 1999 and then it came to its sunset. In the UK, there are 421 of these cars used today and 400 of those are mostly kept in garages as priced possessions. That means that there are only 21 E36 M3s in the UK, which drives the value up.
