In the past videos on the Nurburgring, we were still unsure whether BMW was testing the new M5 or just the M550i model. This video clarifies any confusion today. In this video below, there are numerous elements that confirms this is indeed an M5. The most interesting element that we see here is the CFRP Roof!
The addition of the CFRP Roof is a great innovation on the BMW M5. This stands for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer material. This was actually used on other M cars before including the BMW M3 CSL to the M3/M4 and the M6. It has never been seen on the M5. Now is the right time for it to appear, says BMW.
Another element seen in this footage are the M mirrors. It is a minor element that doesn’t really affect the performance of the car, but is a confirmation that this is indeed the M5.
If there is still doubt at this point that this video captured an M5, it is evident in the sound and speed it covers ground with. It does some seriously powerful driving on Green Hell. When the new M5 comes up, it is expected to have 600 HP. The engine will likely be the S63 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that sources say will be AWD. Hopefully M enthusiasts would not be that disappointed with how this one performs. M division chief, Frank van Meel, promises that this will be a special system, and that it will allow for the fastest and most agile M5 possible. Let’s see if BMW gets to deliver on that promise.
