BMW gets 250th podium finish of its DTM history

BMW just unlocked a new milestone: the 250th podium finish of its DTM history. This happened in race 14 of the 2016 DTM season. The Red Bull BMW M4 DTM driven by Marco Wittmann (DE) secured third place. Wittmann received 15 points and maintain his lead in the Drivers’ Championship. He now has 170 points to his name and a 33-point lead over Sunday’s winner, Edoardo Mortara (IT, Audi). There are still four races remaining.

Bruno Spengler (CA) got his best qualifying result of the year and finished the race in sixth place with his BMW Bank M4 DTM. Tom Blomqvist (GB) finished eighth place in the Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM. These points were sufficient to put BMW in first place in the Manufacturers’ Championship with a total of 520 points. BMW Team RMG is still leading with 228 points.

Maxime Martin (BE, SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM) finished 11th place and did not get any points. Martin Tomczyk (DE), who finished 13th in the BMW M Performance Parts M4 DTM. Timo Glock (DE) finished 15th after a self-inflicted collision. Augusto Farfus (BR, Shell BMW M4 DTM) started strong but was handed a ten-second stop-and-go penalty for an “unsafe release” during his pit stop. He finished the race in 21st place. António Félix da Costa (PT, BMW M4 DTM) crossed the finish line just ahead of him in 20th.

BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt says: “As expected, it was a tough race. However, you could see that Marco Wittmann can also keep his nerve when the going gets tough. He drove an extremely intelligent race, used the pace he had and claimed the third spot on the podium. This was the 250th podium finish for BMW in the DTM – that makes this result another very special one.”

Marco Wittmann was happy to achieve this great DTM history milestone: “We made it onto the podium again, even though it was very close with Mattias Ekström at the end. Therefore, I am happy with today – and proud to have claimed a milestone podium for BMW in the DTM.”
