In this video, Everyday Driver co-host Paul Schmucker takes us through his experience of deciding whether to keep his Porsche Cayman GTS or buy a BMW M2. That’s a good problem to have and a big decision as well for a car owner. To help him choose, he takes both cars on a drive with his co-host Todd Deeken. Learn which is the better car on twisty roads, on this video.
Schmucker’s order for a Long Beach Blue BMW M2 with a six-speed manual has actually been placed already. However, the waiting list is very long and he has been waiting for almost a year now. He needed a car so he purchased a pre-owned Porsche Cayman GTS and was surprised at how he loved driving this car. Now he is having doubts if he wants to let it go. He can still cancel the M2 order and get his deposit back. If he chooses to proceed with the M2, he will need to sell the Porsche for the cash, so he has to make decision carefully.
The M2 ended up to be the faster car due to its turbocharged low-end torque. The Cayman’s 3.4 liter flat-six engine takes some revving but it is also quick. In terms of growl, the latter is better. Both are fun to drive and capable but the M2 is more fun in lower speeds. The Porsche however is a precision instrument with a perfect mid-engine balance that’s better than what the M2 has.
In the end, Schmucker did not decide yet, but was seriously thinking about keeping both. That’s what happens if you expose yourself to two amazing cars.
