These spy photos of the MINI Cooper SD field testing in Germany finally ends speculations and uncertainty. The prototype car features an SD badge, centrally mounted exhaust, and a slightly redesigned front bumper.
The MINI Cooper SD will be available in Cabrio version as well, and will launch Summer of 2011. The high-end diesel has a new powerplant, a 1.6 liter turbodiesel is developed by BMW producing 143 horsepower. This is already a significant improvement compared to Cooper D’s 112 horsepower. The torque is rumored to be at 300Nm. A variant of this engine will also be seen on the refreshed MINI lineup and the new MINI Countryman.
