Can BMW’s next i Division car arrive in 2021?

Both the BMW i3 and i8 stunned the world when they made their debuts. The price point was good, despite being the first ever electric car with a carbon-fiber tub and offering a decent range. Competition has been tough since then and other automakers have kept up — sometime seven exceeding what BMW accomplished. It is high time that BMW develops the next fully-electric BMW i Division car. Can it arrive in 2021?

Can BMW’s next i Division car arrive in 2021?

Hopefully, it will not be too late for BMW by that time. Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Tesla wants to beat BMW badly that there is no doubt they can also develop their own 300 mile-plus electric car.

However, BMW CEO Harald Kruger is not nervous with the competition at all and feels that they will again set a standard in 2021: “Our strategy Number One Next is based on consistent lightweight construction, alternative drive, connectivity, autonomous driving and the interior of the future. The iNext will set the benchmarks of 2021.”

BMW focuses not only on developing cars but creating strong technology to come with it. They are ahead in terms of autonomous capabilities, battery technology, etc. BMW’s strategy is smart because the tech they’re developing can also be used in their entire fleet. It may take time but knowing BMW, these will be developed to perfection. We can’t want for it to arrive.

“BMW i will continue to be a pioneer of innovation in the Group in the future. The next major topics are digitization and autonomous driving. iNext will demonstrate our leadership in these technologies. And, of course, we will also roll out these innovations into all architectures, products and brands, ” said Klaus Fröhlich, Member of the Board of Management for Research and Development at BMW AG.
