Rumor has it that BMW chief of design Karim Habib will soon be leaving the BMW Group. The report was published by Auto, Motor und Sport, though there is no confirmation from BMW yet.
If this is true, Karim Habib’s decision will create a large gap in the design department of BMW. Habib, a Canadian with Lebanese roots, has been with BMW since 2011, shortly after he left Mercedes-Benz.
BMW will also need to find a new design boss — one who will continue the trajectory that Karim Habib started, or better yet, improve on it.
He has been responsible for the exterior and interior design of the brand as head of BMW Design so whoever takes his place has big shoes to fill. Benoit Jacob and Anders Warming, two high-caliber designers left the company last year. Finding the right people then, is very critical.
