The BMW 5 Series is packed with some of the best technologies that BMW has to offer. The interior is largely modeled after the 7 Series, which makes it really luxurious and spacious. Having the award winning iDrive as a standard is a big plus. However, in this review by Mat Watson of Carwow, he tries to determine if the 5 Series can match the desirable look and interior of the Mercedes E-Class, or the driving fun of the Jaguar XF.
So far the, G30-generation 5 Series has gotten positive reviews from automobile journalists. There isn’t any negative reviews about it. Some are not impressed but no one has been truly disappointed by it.
For the exterior, Mat Watson didn’t feel that it was exciting enough. Nothing special, just a regular 5 Series that looks smart and handsome like the usual. It is in the interior that makes the difference though. It was hard for Watson to find a fault about the beautiful built cabin. The technology was brilliant, the seats were wonderful – the cabin is just one of the best in its class. It is not as flashy as Mercedes-Benz E-Class interior but it is definitely more premium, smarter and built better.
This is complemented by how well the car drives. In fact Watson was able to hold a slide in a pretty smooth circle, which is very impressive for a big luxury sedan. It can be tossed about properly, which makes it an Ultimate Driving Machine. Such a big improvement from the previous F10-generation 5 Series which missed this element.
Watson suggests that if you’re looking to buy one, go ahead. It is an overall package of decent exterior looks, amazing interior, and best driving dynamics. He even claims that this is the best BMW on sale right now, even better than the M2.
