Unveiled a few months back, this work of art is limited to only 20 copies globally. The CrossFade bicolor is a combination of Protonic Blue and Protonic Dark Silver, which are standard color choices for the i8. Particularly concentrated at the wing-door, the sportscar shows a more special appearance.

The distinctive design is the brainchild of Lapo Elkann, the President and founder of Garage Italia. Elkann specializes in producing creative ideas on all kinds of luxury goods. He is the grandson of long-time Fiat boss – Gianni Agnelli.

“Lapo Elkann is a pioneer in linking the disciplines of fashion, automobile and design. As a designer, I find this comprehensive approach particularly exciting,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design. “With BMW i, we have been successful in overcoming previous restrictions in automotive design through the use of entirely new materials. So the progressive expressiveness of the Garage Italia CrossFade Edition is perfectly in keeping with the BMW i3 and the BMW i8.”

The design is great because the lines and contours of the car are accurately defined color changes between Protonic Blue metallic and Protonic Dark Silver metallic. Applied in triangular dashed of paint, it shows a very smooth transition between the two colors.

The process of applying this paint is very complex. The car is initially in Protonic Blue metallic color and then stencil film was applied to create the desired geometrical pattern with exceptionally high precision. A second layer of paint in Protonic Dark Silver metallic was applied to complete the look.

Supplemented by an interior with a combination of dark silver of the front end of the car to the pure blue of the rear end printed on Alcantara textile, seats in Foglizzo leather, and Protonic Blue perforated Alcantara, this is definitely a car for the collector.
