BMW X5 and X6 Recall Over Powertrain Failure – 2011 to 2014 Models

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safet Administration and the Bavarian company announced a recall of almost 122,000 X5 and X6 vehicles produced from 2011 to 2014. This is due to a problem with the front driveshaft’s universal joint.

There’s a possibility that the joint contains water and debris, which can cause it to wear faster and potentially fail, ultimately affecting car’s traction. If the owners continue to drive damaged cars, the damage would spread on other components.

The recall affects:

  • 2011-13 BMW X5 xDrive35i
  • X5 xDrive50i
  • X5 M and X5 xDrive35d SUVs
  • model-year 2011-14 X6 xDrive35i
  • X6 xDrive50i and X6 M SUVs
  • model-year 2011 X6 ActiveHybrid SUVs

Dealers are offering free front driveshaft replacement.
