[Video] E30 BMW 325is Transformed into a Rally Car

This is the third Drive episode that we’ve featured so far about turning an old, E30-generation BMW 325is into something that can be used on the track. The ultimate objective was to turn it into a race car that can compete in Rally Cross, and then turn it into a track car for ChumpCar. The past two videos showed how they decided to buy the car and test it out on a race track. This interesting video shows how it is transformed into a rally car, and the smart decisions they had to make in the process!

Before it goes rallying, The Drive had to raise the E30 a little bit and replace the tires to beefier ones. They fitted it with Bilstein HD shocks and BMW 325ix springs.

To prepare the car for the rally, a roll cage had to be installed. The installation was impressive because they fabricated a roll cage that can work for two completely different sports that both have different requirements. Thanks to their careful study of both races’ rule books, they were able to build a roll cage that works for both races, without having to change a single thing.

This is a very cool video that really shows the gritty aspect of getting these cars ready for rallying. It was not easy since the E30 325is was in pretty rough shape and it needed a lot of work to be transformed.
