There is one exciting BMW M2 variant in the works. Rumor has it that production begins on March 2018 and that it will feature an S55 engine. This is the CS version of the M2 sportscar.
Sources say that the M2 CS will deliver around 400 hp, using a detuned S55 engine imported from the BMW M3 and M4. There are other reports that point to a more powerful engine at 410 horsepower. However, there is still no word on whether the M2 CS will be a released as a limited edition model.
If the M2 does get a CS or Clubsport symbol, it promises additional performance achieved through revised engineering layouts. The M2 CS is likely to be available with the same six-speed manual and 7-speed M-DCT transmissions.
There are many performance-related upgrades possible, including aerodynamics and some lightweight materials added. If it ends up getting a sports tuned suspension, that will bring the M2 CS closer to its competition like the Porsche Cayman GT4.
The March 2018 production start is highly feasible because the current M2 is scheduled to end its production run by December 2017. That leaves room for the M2 CS in the following year.
