The upcoming 2018 BMW Z4 was seen roaming around the streets of Germany, just a few months before it is officially unveiled. This car is built under the internal codename G29 and will be competing against the Porsche 718 Boxter and other cars on this segment.
The 2018 BMW Z4 uses a new platform that has been engineered to support petrol-electric hybrid power and four-wheel drive. If sources are correct, the car will weigh a bit over 1400kg with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder entry-level engine. It will be significantly lighter because of the new chassis and soft-top roof. The soft-top roof is best for driving dynamics because the center of gravity is brought down.
The engine is expected to deliver around 248bhp in the Z4 sDrive30i, and a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit, the B58, in the Z4 M40i M Performance. Both Z4 models will come with standard rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
