As Reuters reports, the BMW Group expects the sales in China to be around 10% larger in 2017 than the last year. This prognosis came from Ian Robertson, BMW board member for sales and marketing, who also said that they expect the global sales to rise 5 – 5.5%.
Robertson spoke at the Shanghai auto show on Wednesday. He further explained that the company is expecting Chinese authorities to set lower standards for the number of electric cars in the country. Right now, the government expects electric and plug-in hybrids to meet a 7% sales target in the year 2020 and 15% in 2025. Robertson said:
Discussions are ongoing with the Chinese government. We firmly believe this market will have a very strong footing within electric vehicles, whether it is as early as 2018, whether it applies to all manufacturers in the same way, is open to discussion.
