[Video] Fastest Road-Legal BMW on the Ring: AC Schnitzer ACL2

It is true that the AC Schnitzer ACL2 is the fastest road-legal BMW ever to lap the Nurburgring. Based on the BMW M235i and beefed up by AC Schnitzer, it can be considered as a bespoke creation. It logged in a 7:25.8 lap time on the Green Hell driven by racing legend Markus Oestreich. That’s 2 seconds faster than what the BMW M4 GTS achieved on the same track. It is now on the ranks of the Porsche 911 GTS RS 4.0, Nissan GTR and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series.

The impressive performance of the ACL2 was made possible by its power to weight ratio of 2.54 hp/kg. This was achieved using an upgraded S55 engine under the hood instead of the stock N55 the M235i that it had in stock form. The 3-liter straight six twin-turbo engine was then upgraded to 570 HP to reach the quoted power to weight ratio. The car also received a motorsport limited-slip plate differential and adjustable dampers, together with a refined aerodynamic package that includes a carbon fiber rear wing and front canards.

With all of these improvements in place, AC Schnitzer claims that it will probably have a USD150,000 price tag, if they sold the car. They don’t have plans to sell it at the moment.
