BMW is currently working on a very ambitious project: the fully autonomous driving BMW iNEXT. They plan to manufacture it at the Dingolfing plant in 2021 and it is a crossover that’s similar to the size of the Jaguar I-Pace. That’s a bit bigger than the BMW i3 and not exactly a hatchback. Check out this rendering by AutoBild that is inspired by a mix of the X2 and the X4 for the size and BMW i Vision Dynamics Concept in design elements. The front shows what the future BMW kidney grille might look like and a futuristic look is added by the laser lights.

BMW is aiming for Level 4 automation for this vehicle which means that little to no human intervention is required but the driver can still opt to take control of the steering wheel. BMW also claims that the iNEXT “will also have a new and future-oriented interior and the most modern networking technologies.”

Low weight would be a priority so we expect to see the most high-tech lightweight materials and manufacturing techniques including carbon fiber in both the chassis and body.
