[World Premiere] BMW i8 LCI Facelift

As usual, BMW has released a mid-cycle refresh for the BMW i8 LCI. The Facelift i8 wasn’t changed a lot, but the truth is the car didn’t need much change anyway.

The new i8 still looks futuristic, even though it’s basically the same car that was released four years ago. BMW held the refresh schedule for the i8 simply because they do it for every car. So what’s actually new?

If you look closely at the car’s exterior, you will see slightly different headlights, a new air shutter on the hood, a new set of wheels and a “Coupe” badge on the C-pillar. Two new colors have been added to the selection, E-Copper metallic and Donington Grey metallic, both with Frozen Grey accents.

As for the inside, the car received the Tera World Copper trim and BMW’s new iDrive system. The i8’s power was slightly increased, with the electric motor now making 141 HP and 184 lb-ft of torque. The new battery’s capacity is 11.6 kWh (up from 7.1 kWh) but that doesn’t make the car quicker – it still needs 4.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h from standstill.
