IMSA WeatherTech 240: BMW M8 GTE Claimed 4th and 6th GTLM Class Positions

The IMSA WeatherTech championship was back in showcasing real-life racing. And BMW Team RLL did not lose this chance to make a comeback on the famed Daytona Race Track. The BMW representative, BMW M8 GTE claimed the fourth and sixth GTLM class positions at the IMSA WeatherTech 240 at Daytona, despite having led most of the race.

Finishing 90 laps within the two hour and forty-minute competition, racers Connor De Phillippi and Bruno Spengler claimed the fourth spot with the No. 25 BMW M8 GTE. Further, De Phillippi is short of 30 seconds from the champion, No. 3 Corvette C8.R. Also, he ended with 1.869 seconds from the podium.

On the other hand, John Edwards and Jesse Krohn, with the No. 24 BMW M8 GTE. claimed the sixth position.

Under the GTD class, the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 was able to claim the eighth spot with racers Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley. During a stop, Auberlen experienced a tire puncture. This then resulted with the pair dropping from a solid finish.

During the interview, Connor De Phillippi of the No. 25 BMW M8 GTE said that their team maximized their performance but fell short in going as far as the other racers with fuel. This resulted in them making extra stops and hindered a solid finish.

Likewise, John Edwards driving the No. 24 BMW M8 GTE expressed his disappointment especially because they won the Rolex 24 last January. Nevertheless, he said that it was great making a comeback to racing. He ended the interview with confidence in coming back at Sebring; “ready to stand on the podium again.”
