BMW had an interesting test mule that surprised everyone at Nürburgring just a week ago. With many other things to mention, this one particularly has a camo side rear window housing three parallel air vents. So obviously, this was done for testing a new tech, as well as an advanced hybrid platform. Although, BMW hasn’t mentioned yet a supercar from the M division, some reports hint its future exploration.
From what Mototr.es has reported, the BMW M8 CSL could arrive in 2022 and utilize the new hybrid tech. Rumor has it that the car is in the very early stages of development. From a combination of a six-cylinder 3.0 liter unit and electric motor, the M8 CSL is strong enough to deliver up to 700 HP.
There’s also a possibility surrounding the M8 CSL that it could get a design detail we’ve already seen in some spy photos earlier this year. Its weight could also be reduced with carbon fiber elements inside and out. Including a potential removal of the rear seat bench.
The future of the BMW M8 CSL is reimagined in this rendering we see here; including air vents on the front fenders, massive racing wing in the back, and a carbon fiber treatment at the front. Certainly, there are no changes in the carbon fiber roof.
There’s no surprise, too, in the beginning of new CSL models. In 2019, the possibility of future CS and CSL models were confirmed by Markus Flasch, CEO in Garching. “Limited editions will go further, especially models like the CS and, probably the CSL,” he said. “This will not be the same for every car but we also don’t have to focus on coupes only. I can imagine CS along other special versions also will come to life.”
“There will be no GTS sub-brand in future. However, CS and maybe CSL will be available. Also, a GTS in parallel with CSL is not possible.”
Furthermore, the M division would continue to give service for different customer tastes through sportier Competition spec and various versions of CS — and potentially CSL. “CSL means light weight and has that racetrack ability. It brings the purest M character that you can have that has still got license plates on it,” Flasch added.
That depiction perfectly fits the BMW M8 CS.
