It comes as no surprise how BMW focuses on creating the fastest cars to ever roll on the track and streets. And that is because this era holds the fastest lineup of vehicles. Significantly, some cars in BMW’s current lineup runs so fast it can defy realities. Here are the top three fastest BMWs today.
The criteria for choosing these three super-fast cars depended on the 0 to 60 mph times done by Car and Driver. Top speed limiters make it a bit complicated to accurately getting the top speed of cars. So we did not consider top speed. Also, we let go of the claimed BMW times because of its inaccuracy. It underrated power and performance figures so we don’t include it as well. Therefore, we considered Car and Driver’s judgment because of its independent testing and accurate fastest times.
Third on the list, the ALPINA B7. Even though ALPINA, technically, rebranded it, BMW still sells this tuned-up car. So considering this, it still belongs to the list of fastest bimmers today. Despite being a heavyweight, with 5,000 lbs, the B7 runs unbelievably fast. It can reach 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. Not surprising, really, with its 4.4 liters twin-turbocharged V8 with 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
Running second place, the original monster BMW M5. The M5 broke the 600 horsepower bar for the first time. And also the first to break the two-second range to 60 mph. In just 2.8 seconds, the F90 M5 nailed the 60mph mark. A jaw-dropping speed performance from a luxury sedan. But, topping the BMW M5, is none other than the BMW M8 Competition Coupe.
Driving engagement aside, the BMW M8 tops this list because it runs impossibly fast. In fact, it is the fastest BMW ever created. Thanks to its 617 horsepower twin-turbo V8, it nails 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. Definitely, the BMW M8 flies like a rocket on land.
BMW may have created polarizing decisions recently, but no one can deny that they make the fastest cars in the industry. Though handling and driver engagement comes as priorities still. Nevertheless, you cannot simply argue speed with the top three fastest BMWs today on this list.
