The 2021 BMW M2 CS finished in Alpine White

The latest 2021 BMW M2 CS is about to be released in the United States. But we had two occasions in the meantime to drive the vehicle. A few weeks ago, the first test drive took place in Munich. We went to Upstate New York last week to race the 2021 BMW M2 CS on the Monticello Race Track.

BMW brought out two M2 CS models: one painted in the launch color of Misano Blue. While the other was an Alpine White model with a manual transmission and gold wheels.

With the latest model, based on the popularity of the M2 Competition and the M2 Coupe, only a limited range of options and four standard colors are available to customers. Alpine White, Sapphire Black, Misano Blue, and Hockenheim Silver. In black, the only interior option exists.

BMW M explained that the team was looking at all sorts of color choices, a standard practice in car production. They decorated cars with combinations of orange and red, but they never really liked these colors. The form of the car did not suit them. Internally, they applied to the other colors in the color pallet of the BMW plant in Leipzig. As the launch color, Misano Blue became the final option.

Engine

Motorized as the F82 M4 CS, an S55 produces 331 kW (450 hp) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft). In October, M2 CS marks the end of the F87 M2 series for the European market. As standard, the BMW M2 CS comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and an optional 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Production figures were planned to be 2200 as BMW reported at the launch of the M2 CS. Because of the pandemic situation, it is not known how many cars are manufactured. It will certainly be 2200, but depending on demand over the past and coming months. It may well be a larger amount.

The Leipzig plant will develop as many of them as it can. The output stop or EOL (end-of-life) of both the M2 Competition and M2 CS will be in October. European cars are first produced so that they have a CoC (Certificate of Conformity) dated before the end of August, as the S55 engine in Europe is no longer emission compliant from September onwards.

This year, the BMW M2 CS will go on sale and has an MSRP of $83,600 plus $995. It was originally rumored that 500 units would be produced for the US market, but we heard recently that the number would be smaller than that. No formal confirmation of the exact number of units, but a ballpark listed between 350 and 400 units
