[Video] BMW M8 Gran Coupe vs. Mercedes AMG GT63 S 4-door

These days, Mercedes is gaining ground. The Mercedes AMG division now claims not one but two records from Nurburgring. After declaring that the Mercedes AMG GT63 S 4-door is now the quickest four-door premium production model on the Ring, the same guys, with the AMG GT Black Series, claimed the world’s fastest car title on the same track this week. Although all that is impressive, at this point, you probably already know that Nurburgring lap times are nothing more than bragging rights.

Nevertheless, these claims should help sell cars and BMW. The Bavarians were never too excited about setting record lap times on the Green Hell. To be fair, but why not start now? We’ve seen a lot of drag races, after all, between the Mercedes AMG GT63 S and different BMW M cars where the Affalterbach model was missing. If that’s the case, surely it could be done in a straight line.

However, the video above shows another story. In it, we can look to the way the AMG GT63 S 4-door fares against a BMW M8 Gran Coupe Test. The two should be just as fast on paper, but the AMG appears a little quicker at higher speeds. Both of them use V8 engines but have several interesting differences.

Engine

While a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 is used for the BMW, the AMG model uses a 4-liter unit. Both of these cars have their turbochargers mounted as a “hot V” configuration in the industry. Both of them have all-wheel drive, but the M8 has a 9-speed unit with an 8-speed unit. Also, the GT63 S has 14 additional HPs on the 625 model of the blue and white roundel and an extra 150 Nm torque. Given how small is the difference between the two, which four-door cup model fits better on your driveway?
