The production of the new BMW i4 is great anticipation for many as it begins exactly next year. With sales starting in Spring 2022, this electric four-door gran coupe will showcase itself in late 2021. Together with the iX, the BMW i4 is the leader of the new electric blueprint in Munich. As a result, the expectations for these electric vehicles are slightly high. The new BMW i4 is the first attempt of the company to fully content with the Tesla Model 3. In the purchasing process, the electric range will be a crucial factor when it comes to choosing an electric vehicle. As for the BMW i4, the company claims that it will gain a 600-kilometer electric range. According to some sources, this figure appears to be pretty accurate as to how the top range of the i4 will be a range of 590km to 595km on the WLTP cycle. This will then translate into approximately 280-290 miles on the tougher rules of the EPA cycle.
The three variants that BMW will offer includes the entry-level i435, i440 and the top model with xDrive called i4 M50. Evidently, the i4 M50 will attain the most horsepower. However, a lower electric range will usually be the price for this setup. When it comes to determining the variant that has the lowest battery capacity, it would likely be the entry-level i435. Nevertheless, this would still be sufficient for the i4 variant to deliver 490 to 500 kilometers on WLTP and more than 200 miles on the EPA.
The M Division is also a highlight on BMW i4’s top-of-the-range. Sold under the BMW i4 M50 badge, this model will also gain two motors. As a result, the BMW i4 M50 will be the only 4 Series electric that carries an all-wheel-drive configuration.
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range form is the main competitor of the i4. It boasts an estimated range of 353 miles in its dual-motor all-wheel drive. Another variant, the Model 3 Performance, also gets a dual-motor powertrain with a 315 miles of range delivered. As for the Model 3 Standard Range Plus, this rear-wheel drive vehicle delivers 263 miles of range.
Naturally, BMW will aim to position its BMW i4 as the more superior in the electric vehicle segment. This is a standard process so as to attract consumers who might be interested in purchasing a quite lower electric range but with better features and quality materials.
