Hagerty has just launched its automotive content on YouTube, with some new shows hosted in the car world by some familiar faces. There’s an auto show with Chip Foose, another with Jason Cammisa, and Magnus Walker. Walker focuses on affordable cars, so a vintage car can be the next big collector’s item, called the Next Big Thing. Walker drives the E39 BMW M5 for the first episode.
The California-based Paul Zuckerman owned this special E39 BMW M5. And has made its rounds on shows like The Smoking Tire. Zuckerman is a geeked-out fan of Spike Feresten’s podcast, “CarCast.”. Zuckerman, as a fan of BMW, has decided to take that direction in his youth. For him, BMW has lost its values. Since the E39 M5 is no longer producing the sort of Ultimate Driving Machines he’s used to. It’s vast BMW fanbase’s opinion.
His BMW M5 E39 is not in stock, but it is also not heavily updated. It has only a few basic mods he considers necessary for owning the E39 M5. For example, it has a cold-air intake, a Dinan Stage 3 tune, a short-throw shifter, a Dinan free-flow exhaust, and a limited-slip rear diff. With all that, Zuckerman claims that his 4.9 liter natural-aspirated V8 produces about 440 horsepower, compared to the factory’s 396 horsepower.
The analog but modern looking interior is also really enjoyed by Walker. It’s straightforward and intuitive while still feeling new enough not to feel dated. Many consider the E39 BMW M5 to be the best driving M5 of all time. It is not difficult to see why; it appears to be the ideal combination of power, acceleration, agility, and comfort.
