BMW iX Arrives with the new Digital Key Plus Feature

BMW’s Digital Key feature gets a step-up this year. It arrives as the new BMW Digital Key Plus. Launched even before the CES 2021, BMW’s new iteration of their key presents a configuration that is based on Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. According to Bavarian company, the all-electric BMW ix for iPhone will arrive with the new BMW Digital Key Plus feature.

The UWB technology serves as the foundation for the new additional features in the BMW Digital Key Plus. It also offers an exact localization with the greatest possible security. Thus, defining this as a short-range, high-bandwidth digital radio technology. The precision of the UWB technology also guarantees that relay attacks are not possible. A jammed or intercepted radio signal is just one of the examples of this case. According to a press release, BMW and Apple have been collaborating with the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC). The collaboration aims to deliver a global standard for the automotive industry by establishing the Digital Key specification 3.0 for UWB.

The further development of digital key technology gains more momentum and traction. This is because the CCC has already been receiving some supports from numerous automotive constructor. This widens the gate to a very appealing, pan-industrial solution. Moreover, it also works fittingly on different digital devices such as smartphone, intelligent watches, tablets, and other wearable devices.

Positioning your smartphone in the close vicinity of your BMW’s door handle is no longer needed in this new digital key feature. You can easily open your car by just approaching the car and keeping your digital device in your pocket.
