German automakers usually underrate their engines to avoid getting caught with lesser power than the claims. According to BMW, the standard BMW M3 from the factory makes 473 horsepower (480 PS) and 406 lb-ft of torque (550 Nm). However, knowing that the Brits like to underrate, there is so much more from the G80 M3 beneath its lid.
Surprisingly, the G80 made at about 496 horsepower (503 PS) and around 607 Nm of torque. Those numbers are great from the standard M3. It proves that the Competition is an unnecessary power bump. Indeed, the base M3 for any enthusiasts has more than enough power. AutoTopNL mentions in their latest video that it is easy to tune the M3’s S58 engine up to 600 horsepower. However, with a manual rear-wheel-drive car, that is genuinely unnecessary.
Electrification is taking hold sooner for future cars. So might as well enjoy the golden age of internal combustion power, as these cars might not last much longer. The fact that customers can go to a dealership and pick out a manual, 500 horsepower sedan with carbon fiber sport buckets rear-wheel drive, with five seats and a big trunk, makes this the golden age of sports cars.
